I do not know whether you could do anything to

expedite reprová Bion, vis-a-vis the Rong Kong Government,

any assistance that you can give in this direction will

certainly expodi te the evaavation.

(S) 1.9.A..

My dear Secretary of State,

4 July, 1925.

281

You wrote to me on the 25th June regarding

the possibility of our surrendering Murray Barracks at

Hong Kong as quickly as possible in order that the site

might be available for the erection of a new Town Hall

and Museum with which Sir Paul Chater is closely

associated.

I do not think that there is any possibility

of our evacuating Murray Barracks in the near future.

In the first place we have not yet received Treasury

approval to the scheme as a whole, although this should

be forthcoming very shortly.

Secondly, after the receipt of approval there

is a great deal to be done in the way of designing and

construction of the proposed barracks at Gun Club E111.

I do not think there is any likelihood of our being able

to evacuate Murray Barracks before some three years from

Under the arrangement reprovision, which is a

now.
